Updated site?
Well... thanks to my ISP's meltdown (fried HD on my server), I have to upload all of my files back to grandpamojo.com. - Let's hope that I can restore most (if not all) of my files (hidden directories included) without much problem... - If, however, you note broken links - please inform me... - but um... after April 15th... - I'm going to Nepal for almost a month. :-)
Welcome!
Grandpa Mojo is trip hop - LIVE and in the studio.
Looking for the "missing link" between live funk / groove bands and studio-produced trip hop? - Well, look no further. Grandpa Mojo covers both!
Live - we're a ripping 4 piece band playing remixed versions of the best trip hop tunes you've ever heard.
Recorded - we're some of the most innovative musicians and producers you are likely to come across.
Curious? - Check out Grandpa Mojo News for the latest developments with the band and it's recordings. Check out Who is GM for the strange story of how Grandpa Mojo came to be. Get all the free MP3's and samples you want at Free Stuff / Audio Samples. Buy Mojo discs (and more!) at the Buy Music link. See where we're playing live at the Calendar of Events link. Back from NAMM
Yee haw! - What a great time Bret and I had at NAMM! - We were treated excellently by the Roland folk and we schmoozed as often as we could and partied as much as our old bodies could muster! - I've put some photos up for ya'll to peruse. - Hopefully my video will be up soon on the Roland site. (Thanks again Roland!)

Prepping for NAMM
Whew! - Besides a whoppingly huge Flash / Actionscript project I just finished for Sun, I've been prepping for the NAMM show in January. - I'll be demoing the new Roland MV model in their booth. - Apparently, they saw my video on YouTube and decided to sign me up! - Crazy, no? - I'll be doing 3 30 minute performances / demos a day with my buddy, Bret Mann, on electronic percussion. I've been hastily putting together samples of the new Mojo tunes to use - and as a result, tracked a LOVELY new vocalist by the name of Rachel Leber. She has a GREAT Zero Seven-like voice! - You can hear a snippet of the tune we are working on here (it's KILLA!).
So... the beautiful result of all this? - Yeah... that's right... - I should be prepped up enough to start gigging again. - But it's not going to be the same ol' "band" set up I had before. - Nope... this time, it'll be an eclectic mix of electronic and acoustic players - much more electronica - much less jam band.

Back on task!
Well, like I originally predicted - it's been a year since I took my hiatus... - I thought it might be less - but naw... it took this much time to get my head straightened out... But now I'm completely refreshed and ready to get back to work...
Lessons learned? - that's easy:
1) Don't book too many gigs...
2) Take time with the music...
3) Take care of your health... and ...
4) Listen to the little voice(s) in your head.
I've recently added some "lovelies" to the website here for all of you for being so patient during this time.
-
There's a Grandpa Mojo performance / tutorial video up on YouTube that shows how I go about setting up samples for songs we play.
- There's snippets of 6 of the 12 tunes that will be on the new Grandpa Mojo album (coming out soon!)
- And there's a lovely picture of your's truly working up a sweat at my piano lesson at the ripe old age of 9 1/2. (Thanks mom for digging up this treasure!)
As for gigs - well, I've begun actively pursuing them again. - Rhumba (our blessed patrons of the arts) has told us that they are VERY interested in getting us back there to play again. - And I've begun approaching all of the other venues we used to play - but am looking forward to breaking the hiatus at Rhumba - as it was our birthing ground and the vibe is always so "right" there!
Thanks all of you for your patience! - I'm looking forward to grooving with you once again!

The hiatus has been fruitful!
Since I've taken time off, I've:
1) FINISHED!!! my DVD tutorial about mixing in Pro Tools! AND! it has been picked up by Thomson publishing for distribution, marketing, etc. - so you should be seeing it on the shelves of your local music store soon!
2) Fleshed out many a new Grandpa Mojo tune for the next album and have been working feverishly on them with my good friend and co-producer, DJ Ben Bussard. Currently there are about 17 candidates that will be whittled down to 10 or 11!
3) Created music for a Discovery Channel education film series that is used in schools to help kids choose lifestyles away from gangs and violence. Vicki, the producer, was awesome and I think the music came out great. It also was a great thing to contribute to.
So, yeah!... Guess it was a good idea to take the break! - I'm thinking a return to the "gig circuit" around March or April of next year might be just about "right". By that time, the new album should be done and we should have a whole new gaggle of tunes to play. (And I should have forgotten why I took the hiatus in the first place! :-) )

Grandpa takes a hiatus.
Well, those in the "know" would tell you it was inevitable - but I sure as hell didn't see it coming! - But, yes, it's true! - Grandpa is BURNED OUT! - I'm going to take a much needed break from the gig circuit, put some very worthy "other" projects forward on the priority list, take some time to finally get those GM original tunes up to performance snuff, and basically "hermit up" for the next 6 months to a year. - Now, have no fear! - The Mojo isn't going away forEVER! - Just for a much needed hiatus! - I promise you, it'll be well worth the break once we start back up again next year! - In the meantime, you better catch us at some of our last remaining gigs! - Check the calendar for the dates.
Love you! (and I mean that!) :-)

Nice write up!
We got a great write up back in March from John Hilderbrand, creator of the Tomorrow Jazz website and internet radio station. Check them out here: http://tomorrowjazz.com/index.shtml - John's a cool guy with a dedication to forward thinking jazz dudes (like me!) :-) So, check out this site. Damn fine collection of jazz news, streaming radio, etc. PLUS! you just might catch the Mojo in circulation on his station. John's a fan of the Mojo sound. Here's a nice write up he did on our album: http://www.tomorrowjazz.com/archives/00000168.html.
Oh yeah... gigs too!
Almost forgot... LOTS! of gigs rolling in the door. Brandon, Hunt and crew at Crescendo Artists are bustin' it UP for the Mojo, baby! - Check out the calendar for the latest! (My bet for a cool gig to attend? - The Teva Mtn Games in Vail June 1st!)

My new pedal rocks!...
I recently got a KILLER! new pedal to process my trumpet through! - It's the new Boss GT-8 - and DAMN! if it isn't the shizzle for all my needs!... I think I'll finally be able to play what I've been hearing in my head for some time!... (Long live Jimi!)

They used to beat the crap out of me in Jr. High and High School...
But now they're my best buds! :-)
Well, go and figure... We played a gig at Appaloosa Grill in Denver on Tuesday and added some Denver Broncos players as fans! Jake Plummer, Bradlee Van Pelt, and (I think!) Charlie Adams were there and simply DUG the Mojo, baby!... They were great guys! (really!) - I had a good time hanging out and talking with them on the breaks. (Apparently they aren't aware that I was constantly pointed out as a "band fag" by jocks in my high school and routinely beaten up... so please don't tell them... okay? - I think I *might* just be able to squirm my way in to the "popular crowd" if you guys don't blow my cover!...)
Seriously, though... Who'd have known that not only could these guys dance... but that they had a great sense of humor too? (P.S. - Ask to see Jake's "Hulk Hogan" moustache pics on his cell phone... - The guy should wrestle... really!)

Opening for Snoop Dogg and The Game!
Yep... it's happening... It's confirmed... Snoop Dogg and The Game in Vail on the 16th. We play a 2 hour set from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Gerald Ford Ampitheater. They are expecting 10,000 +. - I'm not sure I have enough kazoos!
New booking management!
I'm excited about Snoop Dogg, don't get me wrong... but this... THIS is the best news I've had in a while! We are now being booked by one of Colorado's premiere booking agencies - Crescendo Artists. Our new "go to guy" is Hunt. Contact him if you want to book us. Crescendo Artists books the likes of Yonder Mtn. String Band, The Motet, etc. - We are VERY excited to be a part of the family!

New Free TUNE!
Sort of a follow up to "RKO Ether" - "You Are That Man" is a freebie MP3 to download. Liza sang some lines for me for it and I pieced it together in that typical Grandpa Mojo fashion! :-)

New Calendar
Okay... not so exciting... but a hell of a lot easier to read... Check it out here.

Grandpa goes full-time?!!!
Well kiddies! - it was bound to happen!... I kept putting more and more effort in to the Mojo and it appears now that music will more than likely be my full-time occupation within a month or so! - *Whew* - How do I feel about it? Hmmm... happy, scared, unsure, excited... (did I mention scared?) :-) - It looks like my full-time contract with Sun will be up in a couple of weeks and then I (hopefully!) will still be thrown a bone from time to time for work from them! - Also, it appears that I *may* be doing some more work for Cakewalk in the future too... just how much work, though, is still to be decided... Luckily there has been a pretty generous amount of Mojo gigs as of late (check the calendar) so that is helping to ease the transitional pain - but I've still got quite a "gap" to fill in our finances once this all plays out. So! wish me luck and keep coming to the gigs! - My son's college fund depends on it! (HA! who am I kidding?... his "college fund" will more than likely just be a sturdy pair of shoes!...)
